Young HedgehogThis months report actually starts not at the farm, but just outside my own home.

As I was making my way to my car one evening I came upon this little chap foraging in the grass next to where my car was parked.

This is a Hedgehog, and is one of the UK's favorite animals.

A quick check showed that he was perfectly healthy and he was freed to continue his nocturnal foraging.

a Snail at the entrance to a rabbit warrenI am sure that our young friend above would have found the subject of this photograph, a very tasty morsel.

I cannot pretend that I know much about snails, however I think that this particular on may be what is know as a Grove or Brown lipped snail

They are herbivores and feed on plant leaves, decaying vegetation, algae, etc. Because of this they are considered a pest by many gardeners.

Dew drops on a dead grass flower headClose up of dew dropsOne thing that is a common sight most mornings, yet noticed by a few is the deposits of moisture on plants and other surfaces.

The photograph on the left shows a dead grass flowering with drops of dew. While as the photograph on the left shows, a closer look can give you a new view of the world.

irridesent cloudNext from the ground to the sky.

Once again tiny droplets of moisture provide an impressive display as the rising sun is refracted by the small droplets in this high altitude cloud.

The intensity of the effect can be quite varied and in some cases very spectacular, it is known as iridescence is an optical phenomenon in which the colour or hue of an object changes with the angle from which a surface is viewed

A pair of mallard fly overheadAlso overhead on this autumn morning, flew this pair of mallard ducks.

The female is at the top of the picture the male at the bottom.

Like the cloud the male has another example of iridescence, this time in its feathers and can be easily distinguished from the drab brown colours of the female.

Squirrel in treeFinally for this month a young squirrel attracts my attention as it darts up the side of a tree after I startled it.

Well that's it for now, lets see what November brings.

See you next month.
