THE NATURE REPORT
November 2007

Blanket cloudNow I know that Phil has said in his report that the weather has not been too bad, and to be fair we have not had much that rain.

However Due to work commitments I can only enjoy the pleasures of the countryside when work allows and to put it bluntly, from my perspective the weather has been !%^* as the photograph of the sky above shows.

It seemed that every time I could get out the rains came. still I should not grumble too much there are many parts of this world that are literally dying for the stuff, it's a shame we can't export it. As well as the problem with the weather, I also sustained a rather uncomfortable shoulder injury during the month. That to, has not encouraged me to get out and about.

Squirrel poses on postIt was not all doom and gloom however, and I did manage a couple of short trips between the rain showers.

This squirrel didn't see me until it had jumped up onto this post when it did it just froze as did I and we stood there like I couple of statues waiting for the other to make a move.

Canada Geese fly overheadThat was me, as I looked towards the sky to see this flock of Canada Geese fly over head.

Phil mentioned in one of his earlier reports (Septembers I think) that locally there large numbers of these birds to be found on nearby waterways.

River DaneThe River Dane has been very swollen recently. This photograph shows the river as it returns towards its normal levels.

At one point it had been over the banks that you can see and had flooded the lower meadows. I belive Phil may have a photograph of the flood, if he has I shall include it here if I can obtain a copy.

Parasol FungiAs I have mentioned on a couple of occasions now, the damp conditions have been ideal for the growth of the local fungi populations.

This photograph was taken at the bottom of the Middle Banks and shows a group of Parasol fungi.

The Parasol fungi is edible, however a word of caution: To accurately and safely identify fungi requires a good deal of experience, if you wish to collect edible fungi for yourself GET EXPERT HELP AND ADVICE mistakes can cause serious illness can even death.

View of Middle Meadow from top of Middle BanksTo finish this month I thought I show you it was not all dull and grey.

This parting shot of the Middle Meadow taken from the top of the Middle Banks shows BLUE SKY and green fields, lovely.

Well thats it for now, By the time you read this it will probably be 2008 so have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

More next month Andy
