THE NATURE REPORT
DECEMBER 2002
Home page

Last month I said I hoped to show you some of the Winter visitors to Greenheyes however time was against us and so here are some pictures of the pond which is now completely full to the point of overflowing.

The pond weed as you can see has moved allowing more of the water surface to show.

This clump of marsh grass was right near the edge of the pond and did provide the nesting platform for the Moorhen but as you can see the raised level means that it is nearly submerged.

Although due to a lack of time to get out taking photographs of the winter wildlife here at Greenheyes, at Grahams farm (Norcroft) there was an unexpected photo opportunity with the arrival of this BMW. Roll you mouse over the image to see a close up.

The piece of fencing was picked up as the vehicle left the road and crashed through the hedge on the far right of the picture (yellow arrow) before coming to rest (after approximately 50-60 meters(200feet)), in a small pond that the recent wet weather had created, on the left of the picture (red arrow).

Fortunately there where no serious injuries to the wildlife or the occupants of the car.

Finally, as the month closes the weather has become quite cold. So much so that Smidge has decided to stay indoors put on her slippers and gloves and curl up by the fire. Life's hard when you're a dog...

HAPPY NEW YEAR

See you next month PHIL.
