VISIT TO GAINSBOROUGH
JUNIOR SCHOOL.
(National Milk Day)
Home page

Gainsborough Junior SchoolThe 11th of October found us with the NFU trailer at Gainsborough Junior School. The 11th was also National School Milk Day, and helping to promote the occasion we where joined by Express Dairies and the Women's Farming Union (WFU) to give the children (and staff) a refreshing taste of the countryside.

The more mature visitors to this site (myself included (huh? Phil mature??? he's a big kid:-)) will remember the good old days when we used to have our little 1/3 pint (200ml) bottle of milk at break time, Usually it had been left by a radiator and the warmth did little to promote the flavour of the milk. These days it comes in 200ml cartons dispensed refreshingly cold from vending machines, oh for the good old days (sigh).

Queing for a healthy drinkGainsborough School has some 370 pupils and all were enthusiastic (as the que in the phograph shows) to try the milk which Express Dairies had kindly donated for the occasion.

As they were drinking the milk the children came along to the trailer to view the animals that we had brought along.

Ray and his cowOne young lady eagerly asked about the price of the calf that we had brought along with us as she thought it was lovely and would like to have one of her own. Then she saw the cow that my collegue, Ray Brown a farmer from Goostry, had brought along. She and many of her fellow pupils hadn't realised just how large and animal a cow is.

That said, even though they are large animals they are normally very docile and curious animals.

We were VERY lucky with the weather given the 2 previous days, and as with all trailer visits the childrens reactions show that it is well worth the time and effort.

A big thank you to all the staff at Gainsborough for allowing us to put this event on, and I'm sure you'll visit us here at home on the web.
