The show preparations for the NFU marquee
start with the first committee meeting in about February when we decide
what we hope to put on display. The following meetings see people contacted
to see if they can provide various items for display. The Monday before sees frantic activity
to prepare for the Tuesday and Wednesday of the show.
A special mention must go here to Norman
and Tony NFU county chairman and deputy chairman for their hard work
in constructing the pens to contain them. Express dairies had provided cartons of
milk for a free giveaway to children however at 140 in the first hours
opening soon saw them gone.
The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) is a charity which helps disabled farmers and their families to mention just some of their work. Sharron the local secretary raffled a picture of Smidge raising over £80 not bad for a last minute idea, and the vegetable display was auctioned at the show end giving us a total of over £120 for the RABI funds. Paul is now able to produce site pictures
in a "water colour effect" print email for details. woody@canalside.demon.co.uk
Here I must mention Gill Shearer our current
secretary without whom the NFU marquee just would not happen. Gill as
Gill before her is a tireless worker on our behalf.
The display created a great deal of interest
among pupils and teachers alike and we are hoping to offer an "enhancement
disc" this September to teachers or pupils needing to produce a
project again email for details. On a final note I must thank Di Holbrook
of Cheshire education for inviting us into the marquee. |
